Primarily lit by the ARRI® SkyPanel S-30C, Bluff posed an interesting challenge, having to shape depth with a very dominant key light. With the use of bounce cards and flags, my team started by cutting any spill towards the back of the actors' heads, before positioning 2'x3' Solids to bring out some falloff on the actors towards camera.
The location also posed its own challenges, mainly dealing with ambient spill through the warehouse doors and windows where we were shooting. We solved this with a staggered array of flags and fabric which helped to build the blackout background.
Another challenge we faced was with rigging the panel into place in the metal rafters, which were wider than the c-clamps that we had at our disposal. However using two on either side of the I-beams we were able to build a mount that was safe to fly.
