Shot on the Canon Rebel T1i EOS 500 D, Critters was a project that spanned over 10 months following various animals in their environments on the Massachusetts South Shore.
The biggest challenge with this project was the sheer amount of time it took to get close enough to the subjects to capture, having only a 50-250mm zoom lens, in order to facilitate easy movement through the forest. Due to the skittish nature of the subjects, often times I was put in a position where I would be waiting in cramped positions for hours waiting for the animals to get in a position.

That being said, the red-tailed deer was captured by absolute chance as I was moving to another location. Focused on walking, I almost didn't hear the scurry to my right before looking up and staring down a gorgeous deer, frozen in place. Slowly I raised my camera, and instantly knew I had my shot.
